Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important official said the attack made him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
